Obesity in Children at Early Age is Life-Threatening
Recent researches have uncovered that childhood obesity may start as early as three months of age. The study highlights the fact that a chubby baby who may appear to be healthy might have the risk of suffering from obesity. These children could be facing a myriad of health issues such as high cholesterol level, high blood pressure and diabetes. The study aimed at pin pointing the stage when a child begins to gain weight.
In the study which involved around 110 children, it was observed that the pattern of weight gain began before the child attained the age of 2. And most of them became obese before their fifth birthday. As per the statistics provided by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about 37 percent of American children are overweight. 16% of those who fall in the age group of 2-19 years are obese.
Thus, the study is a wake up call to all the doctors, to draw attention to the diet and health of children as early as possible. Highlighting the fact that parents and children must be urged to change their habits, researchers indicate that inappropriate weight gain during infancy must be thoroughly probed. This would help in bringing about meaningful changes in the trend of obesity.
