Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is also known as the intracranial injury and it occurs when an external force injures the brain traumatically. Brain trauma can be caused by direct impact or by acceleration alone. On a larger destruction, it can induce many other problems in the brain functioning leading to many disorders. TBI can be a host to many physical, cognitive, emotional and behavior diseases. A disturbed outcome of this one can raise a permanent disability or death. However, a solution of LED therapy to treat this sort of injury has come into light. Here is an overview of this new discovery. Take a look!!!
Statistics of people suffering from Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)
A total of 1.4 million people suffer from TBI in the United States. And this figure includes people from all age groups. Where around 235,000 are hospitalized, a strong number of 50,000 death cases occur out of this injury. And on an annual basis, as much as 1.1 million patients of this problem are registered in the emergency case section.
Study: LED Therapy to treat Brain Injury
This study was carried out by Dr. Margret Naseer from the Boston University School of Medicine and colleagues from the Massachusetts General Hospital. And the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology has also contributed to this research.
According to these experts, with the daily use of light emitting diodes (LEDs) on the scalp and forehead, improvements were noticed in the cognitive functioning.
And it also showed reduction in the post traumatic stress disorder. This photo therapy technique delivers red and near-infrared light energy to improve cellular metabolism which offers many psychological favors.
The researchers also found that with this therapy, patients showed improved focus, attention, memory and inhibition. In fact, at the time of this experiment, one patient even returned back to the work and started working normally.
This study has given light to treat many traumatic brain problems like dementia and other degenerative disorders among elderly people. So with this new hope, here we bid you good luck!!! Take care!!!
